Evactuation Center
The American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter was on the scene shortly after the Gap Wildland Fire broke out on Tuesday evening, setting up an emergency shelter and preparing its Disaster Operations Center for use by 9 pm. The shelter is located at:
San Marcos High School
4750 Hollister Avenue
(intersection of Turnpike & Hollister)
People are welcome to bring their small pets in crates (dogs & cats). They will be housed on the school’s tennis courts. Large animal owners are requested to call the Large Animal Hot Line to learn about Large Animal Transportation and Housing at (805) 681-4332. The Chapter has been in close communication with County Fire to support their efforts in keeping Goleta residents safe.
Events such as this remind us that it is always in our best interest to be prepared. As part of our Mission, the American Red Cross encourages families and individuals to be sure that their Disaster Kit is ready in case there is need for evacuation.

Gap Fire Disaster Training
The Red Cross is offering additional classes to train volunteers to help with the disaster relief effort. All courses are held at the American Red Cross, Santa Barbara County Chapter located at 2707 State Street. For more information about classes please call 687-1331.

- Damage Assessment: A course designed to teach the basics of how to assess damage created by a disaster. Short
and sweet. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission.

- Shelter Operations: Provides an overview of the
activities performed by the Mass Care group, which includes providing food, shelter and
bulk supplies. Prepares Red Cross volunteers to work with other agency’s staff to effectively
and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team and to meet the needs of people
displaced as a result of a disaster. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission.
