Volunteers of the Month
North & South County Staff members nominate volunteers that have
made a measurable impact on the American Red Cross and the community
through their continued dedication to their voluntary service and
the people it serves.
North County: Alesia Yglesias
Alesia is a veteran volunteer who remains passionate about helping wherever she can. She has been pivotal in helping with recent and challenging DAT responses as a Team Leader. Erick McCurdy, a DAT Duty Officer and ES Committee Chair, commented on Alesia‘s professionalism during a multi-family disaster response.
Alesia is involved not only in a variety of ES department activities, such as helping with shelter agreements and staffing in disasters, but also supports other departments. She is a member of the Youth in Disaster Services Committee and is helping to create a program that will effectively involve youth during emergencies. Alesia repeatedly shows her dedication to the organization and our community and we are fortunate that she helps out in so many areas!
South County: Susan Eselgroth
Some of you might recognize the voice of our South County Volunteer of the Month; Susan Eselgroth has taken on the awesome task of calling all our New Volunteers. To date, Susan has contacted 451 new Red Cross Volunteers and continues her efforts each week. Susan makes sure each new Volunteer has a position, is satisfied with their experience and passes on suggestions or questions to the appropriate Department. Because of Susan’s work, we are able to increase Volunteer feedback, satisfaction and retention. The recent emergencies in our county have increased Volunteer interest and Susan’s work helps us engage all our Volunteers in a more timely and effective manner.
Susan also calls community members that have donated to our Chapter to express our gratitude. Usually donors are surprised to receive a thank you call that does not include a donation request. Susan’s work helps to show the community our sincere appreciation and the critical importance of their monetary support. The American Red Cross is a charitable organization that depends on the American public to perform its humanitarian work. It is essential that we thank those who provide the financial support to continue our critical services within the community.
Thank you Susan for all your hard work!
